Fodder Radish

Fodder Radish is a fast establishing brassica similar to turnips in which they flower in 70 to 90 days from germination. This plant can be used for a fast grwoing forage in the fall or used as a tool to suppress cyst nematodes in many crops including potatoes, soybeans, etc. Fodder Radish also has these other benefits:

  • Deep taproots that can penetrate hardpans
  • Has similar forage values as turnips
  • Contain chemicals, glucosinates, that help suppress nematodes
  • Takes up excess nitrogen (N) left over from the previous crop

Suggested Planting Rates:

Drill Seeded (Conventional or No-Till):  8-10 lbs/acre @ 1/8 to 1/4 inch depth
Broadcast Seeded:  12-14 lbs/acre
Aerial Seeded (into standing corn or soybean canopies):  14-16 lbs/acre

Days to Germinate:  3-10 days depending on soil temps
